Denture relining helps to stop gum tissue from receding from under the denture and can enable better retention for your dentures. Often dentures are custom made and are created to give a natural looking appearance. In some cases your gums can sag and this is where denture relining can be beneficial in keeping in stopping your gums from receding.

What type of denture relining treatment can I have?

There are three different types of denture relining which are soft reline, hard reline and temporary reline as discussed in more detail below:

• Soft reline- Some dentures can cause severe pain in the gums especially if the patient has tender gums. Soft reline is when soft materials will be used for gums that are prone to experiencing tender or sore areas. Dentists may use rubber or waxed materials to reline your gums. Soft relining puts gentle pressure and can help if your mouth is sensitive

• Hard reline- This enables you to have a close match between your dentures and the contours of your mouth. It gives the denture flexibility to create the perfect solid alignment if you want a strong and durable reline

• Temporary reline- Some patients who neglect their dentures may experience serious gum problems swelling. If this happens the patient will not be able to have a permanent reline and will have to be placed with a temporary reline.
